Class Fees & Teacher Support

The financial structure at Downtown Meditation Community includes two separate streams:

  • Dana (Donation to the Teacher)
  • Group  Income

Since the time of the Buddha, the teachings of the dharma have been offered freely, in the spirit of generosity. No part of the fees for programs or the Community Fund goes to the teachers. Teachers do not receive payment for leading classes. Teachers are supported entirely through donations (dana).  Students may support the teacher by making a contribution at classes and retreats.

Group Income

Group income includes money received from class fees and the Community Fund.  The income from class fees helps to cover expenses for putting on the programs. The Community Fund helps to cover group expenses and supports funding of scholarships and other activities.

The fees charged for Downtown Meditation programs are kept as low as possible, so that all may attend.  Full and partial scholarships are available for programs. Class fees are listed on the Schedule.

Students may register for a subscription which covers one year of Wednesday night meditation class fees. The subscription costs $350.
